Interview with Kraak and Smaak

1)    What is the news with Kraak + Smaak?

We just came out of the Dutch and Europenan festival season, with great shows on the Beatherder Festival in the UK and Sziget in Hungary among others, so now we are currently trying to spend some more time in the studio, working on new material. Our most recent release, Mixed Feelings, a cd collection of remixes and a dj mix, did well but we want to come up with fresh new stuff to keep the momentum going.

2)    What was the story your your name?

Arrgh, we think we have answered that question so many times 😉 It stems from a Dutch proverb, meaning ‘crunchy & tasty’, which seemed to depict our music quite well. However, we didn’t really relaise how it would sound in the English language..

3)    What do you remember from the United Islands festival?

A field full of enthusiastic people; an amazing crowd that went wild when we played. Perfect place, weather, absolutely great. We hope we can draw the same kind of crowd as with the United Islands show and hopefully even more people will come on the basis of word of mouth.

4)    What can we expect at the planned gig?

Again, you can expect an energetic and dynamic live set that will make you grasp for air at the end for sure. And we’re not that often in Prague, so drop by, it may be a while again.

5)    Funniest moment of this year so far?

A video of a three-year old girl from the UK singing along with the Solomun remix of one of our recent tracks, Let’s Go Back feat. Romanthony.

6)    Your definition of fashion and style?

Original and basic with a twist

7)    Favourite pastime? What always makes you feel good?

Listening to freshly scored second hand vinyl from artists and labels you didn’t know before and finding that perfect sample by chance.

8)    What do you aspire to?

Keep on releasing good tunes in the coming years, getting more and more people into K&S, all over the world.

9)      Your tip for what to do against the grey.

A fresh raw herring a day keeps the doctor away
