Mexican Institute of Sound

Mexican Institute of Sound, or Instituto Mexicano Del Sonido in Spanish if you please, is directed by the DJ and producer Camilo Lara who comes right from the country’s capital, Ciudad de México. In his slightly rebellious attitude, Lara combines things that seemingly cannot be combined when he puts a brand new jacket on the cumbia music style that originally comes from Colombia. He takes an innovative approach in showing the world that Mexican folk music lives and still has a lot to offer. Lara is famous for his giant musical capacity: he listens to everything there is, borrowing a bit here and there, be it a beat or vocals. What appears like chaos in the studio comes out as a set of brilliantly joined components.

Lara’s concert T-shirt concisely states “Give cumbia a chance”. Mexican Institute of Sound became famous especially by the release of the debut album Méjico México in 2006. Another breakthrough was the year of 2009 and the release of the album Soy Sauce which was the first release of the famous cover of The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony under the name ofSinfonia Agridulce. His latest coup happened in 2012 when he released the fourth record, Politico. The samples are being gradually replaced by a live band, also on the stage.

The quality of the experience is guaranteed by nothing else than the participation of the band in the Coachella festival. So if you are interested in an evening full of wild dance, then Mexican Institute of Sound, 29 September and the Roxy is your choice!
